Multiple Biogas Fuels Tested Using Pilot Injection for Performance and Emissions Results: Biomass and waste can be thermally decomposed to produce gaseous fuel. In relatively small electric power generation, one way to use such a biogas fuel is to operate a gas engine as the power source for generating electric power. Researchers at Okayama University and Mitsui Ship Building have been investigating performance of a biogas engine and determined pilot injection of diesel fuel to be an effective method to stabilize the combustion of biogas made of wood chips. Further investigations continued to evaluate the effects that greater pilot fuel injection quantity and injection pressure had on combustion and exhaust emissions.
